Daniel Norell is a Swedish architect and academic. He is co-founder of Norell/Rodhe in Stockholm, and Senior Lecturer in Architecture at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. His research, pursued through theoretical inquiry as well as through design and practice, centers on architectural representation and its role in the conception, production, and reception of architecture. This often entails situating architecture within an extended, socio-material context, including the sourcing and processing of materials, construction, care and adaptation, and the afterlife of buildings and materials.

Often undertaken in collaboration with Einar Rodhe, this work has been presented in guest lectures and at conferences and symposia, and it has been published in journals including Archnet-IJAR, Arkitektur, arq, MAS Context, Plan Libre, and Scroope, as well as in edited volumes. It has been featured in group exhibitions at Aedes Architecture Forum, ArkDes, Bildmuseet, the Bruges Triennial, Färgfabriken, the Oslo Architecture Triennale, the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the Yale School of Architecture. Recent research projects include Interiors Matter: A Live Interior, funded by the Swedish Research Council, and Building on the Built, funded by the ARQ Foundation; his work has also received continuous support from the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.

An experienced educator, Daniel has lectured widely and is a frequent guest critic. He has previously taught at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and has been guest teaching at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, at Porto Academy, and at the Städelschule Architecture Class in Frankfurt. He is currently co-directing the Before and after Building master's studio and thesis sequence at Chalmers School of Architecture.

He is a registered architect in Sweden and holds a PhD in Architecture from Chalmers, master’s degrees from KTH and University of California Los Angeles – where he studied on a Fulbright Grant – and has also studied at Delft University of Technology. He works across research, practice, pedagogy, publications, and exhibitions, often through projects and collaborations that draw these strands together.
